Our Story
Hope Harbor’s story began in 1947, in the aftermath of World War II, when countless children were left without families or support. In response to that need, Hope Harbor was founded as an orphanage offering safety, care, and stability to children during a time of global emergency. As the decades passed, Hope Harbor remained committed to serving children in ways needed by each generation. Formerly known as Turley Children’s Home, the ministry continued caring for orphans on its Tulsa campus into the 1970s. When land was later donated outside of Claremore, Oklahoma, with the stipulation that it be used to serve children, the ministry moved to its current location. In the years that followed, Hope Harbor transitioned into a residential care facility for traumatized and troubled teens. This model faithfully met real needs for many years, providing structure, care, and hope for young people and their families who were navigating deep challenges. In 2024, Hope Harbor’s leadership recognized that while the mission to serve children and families would remain the same, the model needed to change. As foster care needs continued to grow, we sensed God leading us into a new chapter focused on strengthening foster families and intentionally supporting the children they welcome. With our first foster families now on campus, Hope Harbor is leaning into this new model with humility and faith. We are listening, learning, and responding—trusting God to guide us as we address real needs in real time. We call this new beginning “Jenesis”, named after the first child to arrive on campus under our new model. We do not believe this is a coincidence. We see it as a reminder that this ministry ultimately belongs to God, is under His provision, and we are simply the stewards of it at this time. As we move forward, our commitment remains steady: to share the journey, be the light, and do good in the lives of children and families entrusted to our care.
