Programs/Services

Hope Harbor has been providing services for children and families since 1947.  Today, with a mission of restoring hope and equipping children and families for lives with meaning and purpose, Hope Harbor is reaching out to change lives through programs ranging from its Children’s Home and Academy on campus to off-site counseling and parent training programs.

Here is a brief overview of all that’s going on at Hope Harbor:

Hope Harbor Children’s Home.  Located outside of Claremore, Oklahoma, the Children’s Home provides new hope for at-risk teens and their families.  With both boys’ and girls’ cottages, the Home provides a family-style environment for young people whose individual or family lives have reached a point where serious help is needed.  Residents of the Children’s Home work through a Character Growth model individualized to their own needs and situations, while receiving counseling from Hope Harbor’s on-site therapist and attending Hope Harbor Academy.  Family counseling, parent training, and family support are provided as residents work toward being able to return to a strengthened and stable home environment.  While Hope Harbor does charge a fee to help off-set the costs of its residential program, no one is ever denied care based on financial resources and ability to pay.

Hope Harbor Academy.  Young people who come to Hope Harbor are often years behind academically.  Certified teachers at Hope Harbor’s on-site Academy work with each student to improve their study and academic skills.  When students first enter the program, they are assessed to determine reading and math skills as well as mastery of grade level core content.  In providing individualized instruction, teachers allow students to progress at their own pace while re-teaching core content they have missed.

Aftercare:   Even with the intensive services provided to teens and families through the Children’s Home and Academy, young people and their families need often find they need support after finishing the program to help them maintain the gains they have made.  Hope Harbor’s Aftercare program is designed to continue communication, encouragement, and assessment of needs after residents leave the program.  Staff members maintain contact with families after they leave Hope Harbor.  Outcome measures are used to track the long-term effects of the program, and supports are offered when needed.

Offsite Counseling:  Hope Harbor’s off-site counseling services were added in 2011 to provide low-cost child and family centered Christian counseling services in the community.  Services are provided by a well-qualified Master’s level counselor in Claremore, Oklahoma.  Similar to Hope Harbor’s residential services, no one is ever denied services based on their financial capabilities.

Parent Training:  In addition to parent training for caregivers of the Children’s Home residents, Hope Harbor provides parent training workshops in the community tailored to meet the needs of those attending.  Presenters walk step-by-step through core principles of parenting in these seminars designed for parents, caregivers, and anyone working to make a difference in the lives of children.  Problems are described in a way that makes finding a solution possible.  Participants leave with new understandings, new skills, and a new hope.

Hope Harbor is also providing parent training in prison settings in the Tulsa area, reaching out to male and female inmates who realize a need to change their own lives in order to provide a better path for their children.

Thrift Harbor:  Hope Harbor opened a thrift store in Claremore, Oklahoma in 2011 in order to support the services provided to children and families.  With pricing intentionally designed to be affordable for those with low income, Thrift Harbor has rapidly become not only an avenue of funding for the Children’ Home but also a resource to individuals and families who are struggling economically.
