Online Evaluation
Placement
Criteria:
Hope Harbor encourages referrals of children and youth who are:
- not harmful to
self or others;
- have an average I.Q.;
- are between the ages of 9 and 17;
- could benefit from a specialized education program while living
in a Christian residential group home environment.
Placement is a three step process: First Step:
You begin the intake process by providing some basic
information that tells us whether the child may benefit from the
Hope Harbor experience. Submit this information online by clicking
here and filling in the requested information. Once you have submitted
the form to us online through our secured server, our Placement
Coordinator will contact you within 24 hours.
Or, if you prefer, you may initiate the intake process by contacting
our Placement Coordinator at (918) 343-0003, ext. 2. Our Placement
Coordinator will gather some basice information from you by phone.
This information inquiry takes an average of ten minutes.
If it appears that the child does not meet the criteria, the Placement
Coordinator will provide the parent/guardian with referral information
for other resources more suitable to the needs of the child.
Second Step:
Fill out a placement application and mail, fax or
return personally at the scheduled interview. Our Placement Coordinator
will be happy to assist you in completing the application.
Third Step:
Parent(s)/Guardian and child meet with our staff for
an interview. The interview usually lasts about an hour. The purpose
of the interview is to gain a better understanding of the child's
personality and problem areas, to help staff understand the information
provided in the application, and to determine whether Hope Harbor
would be able to meet the specific needs of the child. It is also
a time the family can learn more about Hope Harbor and the programs
offered.
If appropriate, the child is placed as soon as possible, with
time and date determined by guardian and Hope Harbor staff. Placement
Decisions:
Enrollment decisions are based on a thorough review of information gathered
from the interviews and required documents. House parents, counselors and teachers
work closely as a team in addressing the needs of each student. Therefore,
they all have a voice in making placement decisions. These decisions are made
without regard to race, ethnic or religious background. Because the number
of qualified candidates sometimes exceeds the number of spaces available, the
candidate's motivation and desire to make needed changes are critical factors
in making enrollment decisions.
Periods of Placement:
The alternative school operates on a trimester schedule. Students
are on break during the months of August, December, and one
week in April. Although students may be enrolled at any time,
the break months are the peak enrollment periods, especially
the month of August.
Costs
of Services:
Costs are determined based on a sliding scale fee. However, no candidate will
be refused placement based on the parent(s)/guardian's inability to pay.
Length
of Placement:
The enrollment period is 12 to 18 months, depending on the individual needs
of each student.
